Henry Moore / Barbara Hepworth As the Henry Moore Gagosian Gallery exhibition opens in London it’s hard not to compare the giant of British sculpture to his rival and friend, Barbara Hepworth. Both famous British sculptors from Yorkshire, who lived through both World Wars, Moore and Hepworth can be difficult to distinguish and even harder to crown : Ali Godwin.

Wakefield holds several significant sculptures by Moore including his Reclining Figure, (Elmwood) which entered the collection in This acquisition was one of the first major sculptures by Henry Moore to be collected by a public art gallery and is considered as highly significant within his series of carved reclining Hepworth, a theme he returned to throughout his life.
